About Allison

Allison Hall
I have always painted pictures with words; so it was no surprise when my paintings began to carve my career path. I am an author, educator, and communications specialist currently employed to the Ministry of Education (Jamaica) as an Education Officer in the Media Services Unit. Prior to my current vocation, I worked for almost ten years as the Ministry’s public relations officer. I have also worked as a Language Arts teacher at the secondary and the post-secondary levels.

In my present job I am responsible for coordinating the publishing activities for all educational materials in print format. This means that I select the writers, illustrators, book designers, graphic artists and evaluators. Of course, due to budgetary constraints affecting the country and the wider world, I am forced to develop most of the educational materials. I mostly design magazines, booklets, flyers, brochures and posters (charts).

Born in Bonnett District, St. Catherine, Jamaica, to Alexander Hall, a Primary (Elementary) school principal and Myrtle Hall (nee Bennett), a teacher. I attended Bonnett Primary School, St. Mary High School, Mico Teachers’ College, Mount Saint Vincent University and the University of the West Indies, Mona. I hold a Diploma in Teaching, a Diploma in Educational Management, a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, and a Masters in Library and Information Studies.

I am an avid reader and creative writer. I am passionate about Caribbean children’s literature, animal rights, education and the protection of wildlife and the environment.
